I have 24 years in telecommunications and started Cleveland Radio Operations as a vision to help local communities start their own small hub for security Block watch groups using the GMRS System.  While I have successfully worked on a couple of these projects, I have also seen People Misinform or cause doubt about the connection process or using nodes.  You don’t need any additional licenses to run yourself a private simplex node (AKA- Parrott Device); over VOIP for friends’ family and hobbyist on GMRS with approved equipment and operate on the approved GMRS ALLSTARLINK system. remember to not step on, or program over a local duplex GMRS repeaters, please check your area when selecting frequency and PL tone and you will be fine.  Ham Operators started this misnomer for numinous reasons, what I notice locally and from what I hear the general comments from across the United States, is Ham operators are afraid that their membership would fall off, but they start the rumors and just leave people with it’s “illegal”or “you can’t use voip” and they leave it like that, and the answer is yes you can, but you have to use the approved equipment and with the approved system.

On Local GMRS Repeaters, Ham operators sadly, most are closed minded and have a bad attitude towards GMRS users and maybe that is actually affecting their membership.  In the 24 years I have been in telecom and cellular service I have always had a passion for radio and the fact usually you can always rely on the radio for communicans where you can’t rely on cellular service. Over the years and during major disasters, your cell phone service goes down more often than not.  Everyone gets into Radio for different reasons, some its tinkering with antennas, for some its programming and testing range, for others they just like to talk or its recruitment into radio.  Either way, we are all into Radio and the technology, and to Enjoy it.
